About The Student Room
At The Student Room (TSR) we’ve been helping and supporting students since 2001 on our community website, our learning websites and mobile apps.
We’re here for students from the beginning of GCSE to the end of postgrad: for study support, university and careers choices, and broader support for students’ lives – from mental health to shopping and everything in between.
People and partnerships
The Student Room has grown to become an integral part of UK student life, now with 10 million users a month.
We work with almost all UK universities, education sector bodies, government departments, recruiters, brands, and institutions like Student Finance England, UCAS, The Samaritans, and the Office for Students – helping them to understand and engage with students.
The thing that we feel defines us, is the team we’ve built over the years who are all very passionate about supporting students. Our single focus is to help every student be the best they can be.
We are passionate about supporting students
TSR is a highly moderated, but open, forum where students start conversations about anything including, sadly, self-harm and suicide. We have a team of volunteers, trained by The Samaritans, who move these conversations into a private domain, and reach out individually to those young people to provide support.
In the year to July 2018, TSR’s processes for helping these students at risk of extreme self-harm or suicide were triggered 850 times. That daunting statistic – alongside countless others – has compelled us to find another way to support students, and work with universities to keep driving change in both student engagement and wellbeing.
Our unique approach is designed to maximise continuous improvement in wellbeing, engagement, student experience, continuation and equal opportunities, and therefore NSS, TEF and league tables.
